Disclaimer:

We just really love getting out and showing people our area, so don't fret about the costs. Although it's important for us to not undervalue the huge volume of work that goes into training and preparations for every moment spent with the dogs - we do offer trades for services that are available when budgets are strained. We have honoured countless arrangements under this system and have been touched by the support we have received in return.

Occasionally we have folks who simply don't like the 'high' prices. We understand you, but please keep in mind that our prices reflect 4 months of training and conditioning with the dogs, as well as lifetimes of experience. Since we don’t own a kennel and strive to operate with the highest standard of care for our 20+ families of pooches, this price considers that extra effort and is still mindful of average industry pricing.

FAQS

Although this form of transportation has been around for centuries, we know this sport is new to some. Here are some frequently asked questions to give you a better idea of what to expect!

the dogs

  • We’re proud to operate as a kennel-free system, relying on the amazing pets and owners within our community to form our team every season! Over the fall training and winter touring season, we work closely with each family on care practices, health, diet, and training to make sure that these furry athletes are happy and healthy. Then after each run, all of the dogs go back home to their owners and cozy beds. Its kind of like a doggy daycare meets dog walking/running! Learn more about our unique operation here: Green Feet Dogsledding.

  • Contrary to some belief, these dogs LOVE to pull. You can see their excitement as soon as the harnesses come out and they start bouncing to pull once they get hooked up to the sled. Think of it as a team sport running alongside your friends and teammates, it’s fun for them! Many of the dogs we run are also huskies, malamutes, northern, or working dog breeds - meaning it's in their genetics to be active. As the father of our CEO Amanda coined about 15 years ago when asked the same question: "you can't push a rope", come see for yourself!

  • Hang out with their families! We often get pictures in the off-season of the doggies on summer adventures hiking, canoeing, camping, or just lounging on hot summer days with icy dog treats served in a martini glass, you know - the usual dog days of summer.

  • If you have a husky, husky mix, or just a super energetic pup that could use some more exercise, we can help! Check out our training program eligibility and contact us to sign up! Dogsled Training Page.

Rides & TOURS

  • Over the years, we’ve culminated a stunning variety of trails through every possible type of ecosystem across the beautiful landscapes of Bruce and Grey counties. We always aim to run on multi-use trail systems or areas where we have secured permission to run. We're so thankful for the continued invitations to allow us to expand our tours and explore new trails!

  • We bust out our wheels! Running on wheeled equipment is called "dryland running" and involves using "dryland rigs". We also use scooters, and rickshaws to tour the trails when there isn't enough snow for the sleds to operate properly. These are the same rigs we use to train our teams in the Fall season and are just as fun as the sleds! The only difference between sleds & rigs are the cool helmets you get to wear!

  • Of course, it's encouraged! If you choose to drive your own sled, expect additional time for instructions and the choice of 3 trail levels:

Beginner is straight out and back as it's the least risky. Typically for those who just want the experience and some skill-building.

Intermediate has twists and turns and some hills for those who want a challenge.

Advanced involves lots of hills, twists and turns, and sometimes ice on the 2-hour or half-day tours. Higher risk but higher reward!

REQUIREMENTS: Drivers must be at least 14 years of age, can't have any preexisting medical conditions that may affect their ability to drive, and must be in reasonable physical fitness.

  • Please dress appropriately to ensure the best (and warmest) dogsledding experience! Here are our recommendations for proper clothing conducive to the sport, as well as an example of what the guides wear/bring to accommodate any temperature:

    • Wool socks layered over top of cotton socks

    • Warm winter boots that are not confining

    • Mitt liners (i.e. finger gloves) and over-mitts/ mittens

    • Silk or synthetic long underwear

    • Long sleeve undershirt and sweater

    • Polar fleece and jacket

    • Gore-tex or waterproof outer jacket and snow pants

    • Warm hat that covers the ears, chin, forehead (i.e. balaclava) or can be tied under the chin (musher's cap and neck warmer)

Remember the more the merrier with layers, it's always better to be safe than sorry!

  • Group circuits typically include 2-3 sleds or rigs and 2 hours of circuit rotations around a central location. There will be lots of time for meeting and playing with the dogs, helping with harnessing and set-up, as well as learning about dogsledding and driving sleds. Those who choose to drive will receive additional instructions and will always have a guide sled to follow through the circuits.

  • Since we are a small kennel-free organization running people's pets, our group size & weight limits are for the well-being of the dogs to ensure they're not overrun!

  • As this is an active sport, it of course comes with its risks! We will provide you with a waiver that outlines all possible risks for you to revise, and helmets are available upon request (and mandatory for dry-land rigs)! It's so important to pay close attention to your guide's instructions as this will help to keep you safe. Our guides have been dogsledding for decades - you're in good hands (and paws)!

  • Although it's important for us to not undervalue the huge volume of work that goes into training and preparations for every moment spent with the dogs - we do offer trades for services that are available when budgets are strained. We have honoured countless arrangements under this system and have been touched by the support we have received in return. Please contact us to discuss options!

  • We do require 24HRS NOTICE of a cancellation for a confirmed booking due to weather/rescheduling. Otherwise 6% cost of your anticipated tour will be invoiced for rebooking. We truly apologize for any inconvenience, but there is a lot of work that goes into planning each customized tour. We also reserve the right to change locations up to 12HRS before the run due to safety issues.
