OUr story
OUR MISSION:
To assist in restoring, protecting, and enjoying the functions that our ecosystems provide. We aim to inform and inspire environmental stewardship through a range of services as diverse as the environments we protect. Our ever-evolving offerings continue to naturally expand as challenges arise and demands grow for greener initiatives.
WHO WE ARE
Hi there! We’re Green Feet Ecosystem Services. In a nutshell, we’re a female-owned environmental business with the goal of leaving greener footprints for the next generations to follow! We work collaboratively with an ever-expanding team of experts within the environmental field across Canada, and love meeting new people. Although we’re currently based in Ontario, we work across the world and are so honoured to be a part of some incredible eco-driven projects!
OUR ROOTS
Our roots were planted in 2012 when our founder, Amanda Hutter, combined her extensive education and keen passion for the environment into a new business. Back then, we called ourselves "Green Feet Forests and Gardens" as we started out with our hands in the dirt doing just that.
Since then, our range of services has continued to grow and has naturally expanded to cater to new environmental focuses like climate change mitigation strategies, and the restoration of ecosystem services. This has allowed us to build on our expertise and provide a much wider variety of offerings to our clients! From drone surveying and soil testing to sustainable garden designs and environmental project support - we’ll be your eyes in the sky, boots on the ground and minds at work to fulfill any green endeavour.
WHY ECOSYSTEMS?
Although our focus may seem unique to some, the work we do is as old as the species in our environments. Think of pollination by bees, carbon sequestration by trees, and water filtration by roots. These are all examples of the benefits that, for us humans, nature provides for free. They’re known as Ecosystem Services (ES) and they represent the relationship we have with nature as it contributes to our well-being.
The benefits from healthy ecosystem services are not only vast, but also absolutely vital to everyone and everything on our planet. Benefits like clean water, purified air, fertile soil, regulated temperatures, and food provision, to name a few. They also provide us with the raw materials and natural resources we rely on for our energy, medicines, products, buildings and basically the foundation of all civilization and economies. Unfortunately, the unchecked exploitation of these natural resources has resulted in the gradual disappearance and degradation of these ecosystem services. That’s why they have become such a crucial priority for our work!
HOW WE DO IT
TRIPLE BOTTOM LINE
From our very beginnings, our company has always been based on a triple-bottom-line approach. This means we’ve committed to focusing as much on social and environmental concerns as we do on finances as a commercial operation. Instead of one bottom line, there should be three: People, Planet & Profits. From the experiential education and training we provide to the donations we make to volunteer-run organizations - helping people and the planet in creative and industry-leading ways is why we’re here.
Working Together
We can't say this enough. In the environmental industry, there is "far too much work for far too few people" (credit: Adrienne Mason). Environmental restoration and protection is a big job and we're not shy to partner up in designing and delivering work that benefits both people and the planet. We owe the success of our work to the exceptional range of expertise among our collaborators and partners spanning different industries, cultures, and ages. Learn more about the people we work with on our Team Page!
Breaking ground
We’re proud to say that we now have over 10 years’ worth of projects and experience demonstrating ground-up innovation in the environmental industry. Working both locally and across the globe, we’ve worked alongside interdisciplinary and intercultural minds, allowing us to be known for our unique two-eyed seeing approach. From helping to design university bachelor programs to redefining the dogsledding tourism industry, we don’t want to toot our own horn - but we’re good at what we do!
WHY we do it
We do our work for our kids, our kids’ kids, and all the future generations who we’ll never get to meet. Our work is also for all of the incredible plants and animals that we share this earth with. They're just as important, and all of these beings require a healthy planet.
